Cactus to Tram (Skyline) — A Quiet, Reflective Night Hike
Start: Friday, 11:00 PM
Route: Skyline Trail (Cactus to Tram)
Destination: Palm Springs Aerial Tramway Mountain Station
Distance: Approximately 10–11 miles
Elevation gain: Approximately 8,000 feet
I'm planning a nighttime hike up Skyline, most likely ending at the tramway rather than continuing to the summit.
I recently lost a very precious and deeply loved member of my family, and I'm still grieving. Hiking has always been a source of peace and comfort for me, especially in the quiet of the mountains.
I hope to spend much of this hike reflecting, praying, and finding some solace in nature. I may be quieter than usual and occasionally emotional. Please don't feel uncomfortable or obligated to console me. Sometimes I simply need silence to remember someone I loved dearly.
I'd welcome a few experienced hikers who enjoy the peacefulness of nighttime hiking and understand that this will be a more contemplative outing rather than a particularly social one.
Important: Skyline is an extremely strenuous hike with significant elevation gain and limited opportunities to turn back. Participants should have prior experience with long, steep mountain hikes, bring appropriate nighttime and cold-weather gear, and be prepared to stay together for safety. Our plans will depend on trail conditions, weather, and tram operations.
I look forward to sharing the beauty and stillness of the mountains with those who wish to join me.
I will hike at moderate steady pace with breaks as needed.
Please bring appropriate gear, enough water and electrolytes, and must have gps file of map downloaded on phone
If you need to turn back it can be risky and slippery and hard to see trail going down . I advise you be confident in your abilities to go down alone. I advise you continue to go up to tram as going down is significantly harder.
Must have experience with strenuous hikes of 4000 plus elevation gain and 8 hours plus of climbing such as Baldy, Gorgonio, etc
