Join us for our monthly gathering where we combine two of life's greatest pleasures - wine and women's literature!

Our book club welcomes all bookworms and wine enthusiasts and this month’s pick is Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult paired with the Italian Sangiovese based red blend Grifone 1967 Toscana. Grab a glass of your favorite wine, cozy up with our current read, and come prepared for engaging discussions and shared insights. The Grifone 1967 Toscana is available at Trader Joe’s and tastes best if opened 30 minutes before consumption. It perfectly accompanies the rainy mood of Picoult’s novel following Ruth Jefferson who is a labor and delivery nurse at a Connecticut hospital with more than twenty years’ experience. During her shift, Ruth begins a routine checkup on a newborn, only to be told a few minutes later that she’s been reassigned to another patient. The parents are white supremacists and don’t want Ruth, who is African American, to touch their child. The hospital complies with their request, but the next day, the baby goes into cardiac distress while Ruth is alone in the nursery. Does she obey orders or does she intervene?

Small Great Things (2016) is the twenty-fifth novel by American author Jodi Picoult. The book focuses on race in America is being adapted into a film starring Viola Davis and Julia Roberts.

Pizza is a recommended pairing with the monthly wine and will be featured at the gathering by the host. We ask all attendees to bring a potluck style dish (suitable for at least 5) or send a donation of $7 via Venmo @EkechiKC. For a sneak peek at questions during the book club, you can find it here here. Blood orange tea will be available as a nonalcoholic option. Make new friends, exchange recommendations, and immerse yourself in the world of storytelling and wine appreciation. Be sure to wear red and mark your calendars for this perfect blend of literature and libations at The Monthly Re{a}d!
