February Clojure Users Group Meeting: Monads

Details
This talk will attempt to get you to a working knowledge of monads. We'll assume no prior knowledge of monads, and won't go near category theory or any other mathematical formality. Instead, we'll start with a look at a pure functional language, and the problems such a language runs into. Then we'll get into the specifics of what monads are, and how they can provide an elegant and unified framework for solving many of these problems in a functional way. Finally, we'll take a look at how monads can fit into Clojure.
Our speaker is David Santiago. We don't really have a description of him because he was only recently sent to our time by Skynet.

Parking and Directions:
We're in the Gateway West building, next to the Westfield Century City mall on the east side. It's the only building with big red "Westfield" signs on top.
I recommend you park at the mall. They will charge $1/hr for up to 3 hours, and our building is a short easy walk: Exit from the mall parking garage up to ground level, head east, pass the Lens Crafters, and you'll be able to enter the west side of 1801. Then just hit the elevators to go all the way up to floor 14, and we're in Suite 1450.
In a pinch, if you park in the parking garage for Gateway West, I may be able to score you parking validation. However, I cannot promise it and therefore prefer you use the mall parking.
