Hike to see some ruins! Sam Merrill Trail to Echo Mt.

Hey guys, hope y'all are ready for a workout, good conversation, new friends, and some fresh air! Important to note, I would categorize this hike as intermediate. This hike is a very doable and rewarding challenge for all beginners though. The trail is easy enough, but the incline/elevation is what makes it a bit tough - but not to worry, with so many people, we'll be sure to form groups of people hiking it at different paces. Going down is very easy, but I reckon that is usually the case!

In order to avoid the crowds and direct sunlight as much as possible, I moved the meet up time a bit earlier. Other important details:

1. If you are driving, carpooling is highly recommended. There seems to be sufficient parking in the surrounding neighborhoods, but it might get crowded.

2. Make sure to bring plenty of water!!!

3. A snack or some food would be nice, once you reach the top and are resting while taking in the amazing views.

4. So we'll meet at 8:30. I'll be in front of the Cobb Estate gate where the trail begins. You won't miss it. Right at the corner of Lake Avenue and E. Loma Alta Dr.

To get to the trailhead: From the 210 Freeway in Pasadena, take exit 26 and head north on Lake Ave. Drive 3.6 miles to the end of the road and find street parking. The trailhead is on the right, just before the road turns sharply to the left and becomes East Loma Alta Drive.
