Let’s Hike the Laguna Lake-Cerro San Luis Loop

Details
This 6-mile hike covers a lot of interesting terrain starting with Laguna Lake then onto a flat plain flanked by horse corrals, then up a steep, 2.5 mile, 1300 ft. ascent to spectacular views at the summit, followed by a 360 degree scenic descending loop around the Cerro through mostly forest terrain and back over the plain to the trail head. Yes, this is definitely a full service hike.
The 2.5 mile ascent to the summit is strenuous so be sure you’re confident you can handle it. There's also a lot of unshaded trail so bring sunblock.
Getting to the trailhead is a little tricky. Heading south on Madonna Road from 101, turn right onto Dalidio Drive, take the first left hand turn, follow that road to the end and turn right. Follow that one until you reach an asphalt loop next to the Lake Side Trail trailhead. Plenty of parking there.
PLEASE READ: We'll be starting from the Lake Side Trail trailhead right next to Laguna Lake, not the Allen K Settle Trail trailhead just north and near the dog run. Just follow the driving directions above. The pin on the map shows the location of the trailhead parking loop.
Bring water, layers, sunglasses, sunblock, a hat, sturdy boots and snacks.
