Let's Hike The Irish Hills Mariposa-Froom Creek-Ocean View+ Loop

This 7-mile, 1230' elevation gain loop is classified as moderate, but there are two pretty steep climbs of about 1/2 mile each. The latter ends around mile 2.5 and after that it's mostly level or downhill back to the trailhead. That said, Old Prospector Trail is a steep and rocky downgrade and trekking poles are advised. Please be sure you're comfortable with these conditions. During the climb we'll be treated to great views of SLO and the Morros and after that, equally great ocean views before our descent to the trailhead. We'll stop for a snack about halfway.

Finding the trailhead is simple. From US-101 take Madonna Road until it ends. There you'll find a small park with plenty of parking around it. From there the trailhead is right across Devaul Ranch Drive.

Be sure to bring water, layers, sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, and snacks.

I'll be at the trailhead wearing a dark, Stetson-style hat.
