Let's hike Pismo Preserve Discovery Loop and Peek-a-Boo Loop Trails

This is a great moderately strenuous 6-mile, 700 ft. elevation gain hike that includes spectacular 360 degree views of the Pacific to the west and the Temblor Range to the east as well as points north and south. The trails are well marked and graded, so pretty easy going. The hike is about 70/30 un-shaded/shaded with a number of oak groves along the way. We'll take a snack break about halfway along the Peek-a-Boo Loop. On the way down we'll stop at Lone Oak for great ocean view photo ops before returning to the parking lot.

PARKING
Unfortunately, this very popular 880 acre preserve has a small parking lot. It's why I'm starting the hike a 8am and I strongly encourage car pooling. If the Preserve parking lot is full there's street parking west of Hwy 101 before the turnoff to Mattie Road and limited curb space farther north on Mattie Road.

There are two trailheads in the parking lot so look for the HIGH ROAD one. It's to the left just after entering the parking lot.

Bring water, layers, sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, sturdy boots and snacks.
