Mortal Kombat 2 will center around the titular Mortal Kombat tournament, where Earthrealm's champions will face off against Outworld's warriors in a fight for the fate of Earth. The sequel will escalate the stakes from the first film, as a loss in the tournament would mean Outworld's invasion of Earth, led by Shao Kahn. The movie will introduce new realms and characters like Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban, and will also see the return of characters from the first film.
