Black Hat dance is a sacred Cham dance named after the black hats which the dancers wear.

The dance has a deep spiritual significance and is performed as an act of religious ritual and practice, and not as a piece of entertainment.

It is a practice that dates back to the 8th century, done to eliminate the obstacles, which in an individual are the afflictive emotions and misconceptions that cause sufferings.

This ritual is rarely seen outside of Tibet.
