The UN theme for International Women's Day 2014 is "Inspiring Change"

Let's encourage advocacy for women's advancement everywhere in every way. It calls for challenging the status quo for women's equality and vigilance inspiring positive change.

INSPIRING CHANGE

Women's equality has made positive gains but the world is still unequal. International Women's Day celebrates the social, political and economic achievements of women while focusing world attention on areas requiring further action.

MAKE A COMMITMENT TO make your voice be heard: contact your congress people, speak up and take action to help make positive changes in our communities worldwide. MAKE A COMMITMENT TO Become a Mindful Earth Steward: Start by signing up to participate in our EARTH HOUR EVENT THIS MONTH https://www.meetup.com/LotusSangha/events/111323212/ and SIGN THE BUDDHIST DECLARATION ON CLIMATE CHANGE: http://www.ecobuddhism.org/bcp/all_content/buddhist_declaration/ LET'S BE THE CHANGE WE WISH TO SEE IN OUR WORLD

International Women's Day honors the work of the Suffragettes, celebrates women's success, and reminds of inequities still to be redressed. (Suffragettes campaigned for women's right to vote. The word 'Suffragette' is derived from the word "suffrage" meaning the right to vote). The first International Women's Day event took place in 1911.
