Linux Meetup Wednesday: National Weather Service

Hi all.

We have a special meeting of the Linux and PHP meetups coming up this Wednesday, July 6, and I hope you'll be able to make it.

We've been invited to meet at the National Weather Service, just off of the Snyder I-265 at Smyrna Lane. Meeting starts at 7 p.m.

We'll get a tour of the facility and get to see Linux powered computers generating our local weather forecasts!

I believe they use the open source programming language Tcl to make it all work. So you might learn a little about Tcl programming along the way. (Homework: http://www.tcl.tk/sof... re/tcltk/ )

A big thank you to meetup member (and NWS employee) Tony Freeman for arranging all this.

Let me relay to you what Tony wrote me:

"Our conference room has a nice big table, a projector, and a laptop we can use to connect to the net through. I can have snacks, soda and coffee waiting. If there is no severe weather, I have a forecaster (Ben Schott) who is willing to show how the forecast is done using custom software built on Linux."

I'd appreciate if a few more of you RSVPed. (That helps the undecideds make up their minds to come, I think.)

Please RSVP for the Linux meetup at http://linux.meetup.c... 73/events/4715612/ and/or for the PHP meetup at http://php.meetup.com... /events/4715613/ Thanks!

Looking forward to seeing you Wednesday!
