Special Olympics at UTA Stadium
Every year, many of the tens of thousands of Special Olympics athletes in the State of Texas come to the University of Texas at Arlington to compete in their Summer Games, in quite a variety of events. This year, once again, almost 3,000 athletes are expected! In order to enable these brave and talented athletes to do their best and have fun while doing it, the folks at Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) will need the help of many caring volunteers -- more than 3,500 of us. Would you like to be among these volunteers? This year's Summer Games will be held from Thursday, May 24, through Sunday, May 27, at UTA's Maverick Stadium and other venues. Let's get a group of Random Acts of Kindness volunteers together to volunteer there on Saturday, May 26, their busiest day. If you can't make it on that day, please consider volunteering on that Thursday, Friday, or Sunday instead. But let's target that Saturday for our group event. In order to be permitted to volunteer at the SOTX Summer Games, you MUST first register at the SOTX volunteer web site, but online volunteer sign-ups are not yet open, so this posting is more a "Save the Date" notice (because that's a holiday weekend) than a request for volunteers. I will let you all know, on this event page, when we can sign up and choose our preferred activities, dates, and shifts. Once we've all done that, please also RSVP on this Random Acts event page, so that we'll have some idea of how many RAK volunteers to expect and which RAK friends to keep an eye out for. :-) But please understand that RSVPing only on this Meetup page is NOT sufficient! You must ALSO register at SOTX's web site! Although the time for this meetup is posted above as 12:00 p.m., this is just an arbitrary time, because your actual reporting time to your venue, such as to the Volunteer Registration tent at Maverick Stadium, will be about 15 to 30 minutes before the scheduled start of the shift and event you choose. Volunteers, by the way, must be 15 years or older to volunteer alone; 8-14 year olds must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or chaperone. But according to SOTX’s Director of Volunteer Services, “younger children and their parents are always welcome to come and be Fans in the Stands." Thank you for all that you do for others. I'll look forward to seeing many of you in Arlington in May, and I'll keep you posted about volunteer sign-ups! I'll close by sharing with you the words of the Special Olympics Volunteer Oath: "I promise to give the time in my life so that Special Olympics athletes can have the time of their lives. I promise to support Special Olympics not just as an expression of charity, but as a form of respect for my fellow human beings. I promise to spread the word of volunteerism because, in giving, I receive so much more in return."

What we're about

My name is Tim Gorts and I have started VolunteerLove.com to empowering the members of the group and the community. We will create a state of love and gratitude and actively passing it on to everyone we come in contact with. We will have discussions about creating this state of love and gratitude within ourselves and we will also actively go out at least once a month as a group and pass this state of happiness and bliss onto the community. We will shape the world and make a difference!

As a group we will be working with orphans, at risk youth, the homeless, veterans, the forgotten, the hurting, the elderly and anyone else that needs a little more love and happiness in their lives. There is magic in giving to others unconditionally. There also is healing in giving of yourself. Please join this meetup if you feel at all compelled to help, heal, love, and live in a state of gratitude while cultivating those same qualities within yourself with an amazing group of loving, giving individuals.
