This field trip is dependent on the weather. Photographing the Milky Way isn't as tough as it seems.

## About this event

Photographing the Milky Way isn't as tough as it seems. It just requires the right equipment and patience. Foto Dono will be hosting a field trip to Caspersen Beach to photograph the Milky Way. Photographing at that location has its challenges, mainly because of light pollution. However, most of the shooting will be at the beach. The beach is kept in relative darkness because the sea turtles nest there.

The main goal of the field trip is to provide an experience in creating a single shot exposure or multiple exposures for stacking the night sky. You'll need to render the post-processing of the images with Lightroom, Photoshop, or other editing software.

When: Saturday Evening from 8 PM to 10 PM September 24th.
Where: The address is 4100 Harbor Dr, Venice, FL 34285. We will meet in the parking lot next to the restroom.

Driving Directions - From 175, take exit 193, Jacaranda Rd. When you reach the roundabout, take the first right onto Venice Ave. Take that to Harbor Drive S and make a left. Please take it to where it dead ends. That's the parking lot where we will meet.

Weather - This event is dependent on the weather. Clouds and rain make abysmal visibility of the night sky. I'll decide to shoot or not shoot about 24 hours before I head out.

Timeline for Sunday Evening with Moon Phase - New Moon:

  • 7:23 PM Sunset
  • 7:37 PM Blue Hour
  • 7:46 PM Nautical Twilight
  • 8:13 PM Astronomical Twilight
  • 8:40 PM Night Time - Galactic Center visibility starts with an elevation of 28.4°
  • 11:52 PM - Galactic Center visibility ends when the core sets.

Equipment - D-SLR camera or Mirrorless System:

  • Bring your widest angle lens with a 2.8 f/stop or faster. You'll need a sturdy tripod and a remote switch for your camera.
  • Keep in mind this depends on the weather.
  • So come prepared; bring a flashlight and bug spray!
