Talk: Slow Horses and Architecture, with Saul Metzstein

I found this amazing talk on Eventbrite, organised by the Temple Bar Association. The gate that used to span Fleet Street where it meets the Strand, was taken down and was eventually re-built on Paternoster Square (only in 2004!).

If you saw and loved Slow Horses on AppleTV+ then you know the appeal to hear from Sam Metzstein who directed season 3 and 5, he talks about the role architecture played on the show.

“Saul Metzstein is an award winning director of feature films and television dramas. He directed seasons 3 and 5 of Slow Horses.
Saul Metzstein studied architecture at Cambridge before taking on production roles on Trainspotting and Shallow Grave. He subsequently directed documentaries on Gillespie, Kidd & Coia and five episodes of the seventh series of Doctor Who.
Saul’s direction of Slow Horses is recognised for its incorporation of architecture as an important part of the narrative. Episodes used the Barbican as an elaborate framing device for characters, creating a heightened sense of tension and allowing a greater connection with the chararcters. Scenes shot inside a secure underground vault increased the claustrophobic nature of the incident, with the feeling that not only forces of evil were closing in, but so were the walls of the building.

As tickets are so expensive I am not asking for an attendance fee for this one. However if you are a student and get a £5 ticket for the talk, would you mind letting me have a £2 attendance fee?

I also want to point out that this may sell out very soon due to the popular subject. On the other hand not very many people are aware of the Temple Bar organisation so who knows.
