Hello Ladies,

We have a Career Talk Edition for you!

Be your own mentor: Learning, pursuing growth and defining your own career path - Celeste Horgan

In a perfect world, we'd all cruise into a new job at a new company and have an assigned mentor. They'll have been at the company for 10 years, and are ready to teach us the roles. They'd give us advice, feedback, review and would go out for beers to boot. They'd teach us all the keyboard shortcuts in Figma, and then they'd magically imbue us with perfect working knowledge of Git. That mythical mentor would've faced every issue we've ever faced in our job, and would know exactly what to recommend.
Unfortunately, most of us don't walk into a role like that, and don't have access to mentorship. You might join a startup, or have a boss that doesn't understand your role that well, be the only one on your team with your specific role or – gasp – be a team of one! What do you do, then?

"How to be a (bit) better designer (human)" - Jolanta Cariova

Every day we meet, talk and make decisions with other people. Communication and relationships between people are inevitable in our everyday life.
In this talk, I will share my observations and learning from 6 months mentorship program that I participated in. I will present the idea of building relationships as an essential part of the designer's work process.

Happy to see you!
LTUX Berlin organizers: Steffi, Emanuela, Karen & Lucija & the Shopify team

Speakers

Celeste Horgan

As the lone writer on design and development teams, I've had to champion my own cause for the majority of my career. I've worked as a designer, technical writer and UX Writer, and maybe once in my career have had a manager who actually understood my role! Through trial and lots of error, I've figured out the best strategies for developing myself and my career, selling my own value, and getting the kind of work that I want to get when no one's there to hold my hand. And you can too! ;)

Jolanta Cariova

With over seven years of digital design experience, I am a Lithuanian product designer based in Berlin now working for Shopify.
After graduating in Graphic design, I gradually transitioned to UX design which opened up this feeling of designing for real people, and it made me see design as a tool of communication that I care deeply about.
