What we’re about
This group is for those who desire to share and explore their dreams. It is a group for those who either for the entirety of their lives or on occasion experience very vivid, nuanced, detailed and layered dreams and find it quite cathartic, grounding and embodying in a community of other dreamers to share the nature of their deeply curious, challenging, painful and/or joyful multi-layered dreams. The very fact of articulating and sharing dreams in a group setting often lends itself to the possibilities of greater clarity and self-reflection.
The basic rule of our group is that there will be NO judgement or criticism with respect to the nature or content of the dream one volunteers to share with our group or unsolicited or imposed interpretation, for example, insisting to another member that the symbols or images in their dream means "X, Y or Z."
On the other hand, questions of the dreamer with respect to, "What were you feeling or what was happening at this a particular point in the dream" are fully embraced and welcomed! We are here to encourage a deeper exploration, understanding and reflection by each person with respect to their dreams.
The basic format is below:
- Time permitting each week at least a couple or a few members of the group each will tell their dream if they volunteer to do so.
- After a member tells their dream other members may ask questions to that person about their dreams, for example, What was happening at this particular point ? How did you feel when this was happening? etc.
- We will then go on to use, "If It Were My Dream" format. This is an established dream group format where each member will envision what was just conveyed by the dreamer and tell it from the perspective, "If It Were My Dream." This is very different than interpreting what the dream and associated symbolism meant for the person who had experienced the dream. The pronoun, "You" is never used, again, only in first person, "If It Were My Dream."
- We will then conclude by returning to the dreamer for any additional insights, reflections, insights, ruminations he or she might have.
The focus is about being curious and supportive with our questions without any imposition of our own interpretation on the dreamer's dream, which includes no dream-book interpretation (i.e., this means, "X" and that means, "Y") as that unintentionally closes off the possibilities of deeper exploration for that dreamer!
The goal is to be supportive and allow deeper exploration by asking the person who just shared their dream many curious and opened-ended questions with respect to what was happening for you, what were you feeling at this particular point? etc. Pausing and deep listening also allows for the dreamer telling his/her dream the possibilities for a deeper registering, exploration and clarification.
This group will be first and foremost a Safe and welcoming environment and opportunity for discussing, sharing and reflecting on our own inner experiences in dreams (or in-between dreaming-and waking states) which can potentially further embody the nature of our own journey or exploration and dream-state experiences in a community of others.
