Südeifel: Grüne Hölle Double-Loop (13km)

Details

Hello Friends!

Sunday it's gonna rain again!

Or maybe not, like last week, who cares?

I don't, and neither do you, that's why we will go for a great walk to "Felsenland Südeifel", the "Müllerthal" of Germany, right across the border near Dillingen, not far from Beaufort.

We're going to up our heart rate with a steep incline of about 1km, then the worst is already done.

There are so many viewpoints in that area that I needed to create two nested loops in order to pass by most of them.
This allows chickening out after 7km, in case someone is so exhausted already that the only thing they can do is the last 1km back down to Luxembourg.

The rest of us keep going, lunch break is only after the point of no return!

Many interesting spots are along the way, such as "Kreuzlay", "Eulenhorst", "Lingelslay", and "Picnic Table", as well as an area known as "Grüne Hölle", which gave the trail its name.

There are several shelters that we can use for short stops and for the lunch break, in case it rains cats and dogs.
The plan is to have lunch between the 8 and 9km mark, depending on the weather and the size of the shelters that we pass by.

Meeting Point:
We will meet at the bus stop "DILLINGEN, Déiljen", in Dillingen/Beaufort.
Don't confuse it with "Dillingen/Saar" or "Dillingen an der Donau", you will not catch up with the group on time :)

Public Transport:
You can take train IC 5331, leaving "Gare Centrale" at 09:16 towards "Gouvy" until "Ettelbrück".
From there, take Bus 190 towards "Echternach", leaving at 10:15 from the Gare Routiere in Ettelbrück.

We will start the hike right after the bus has arrived in Dillingen, crossing over the "Brücke" to Dillingerbrück and right into the forest!

Carpool:
Using public transport takes exactly twice as long as going by car. Let's consider it the fallback option in case we don't have enough cars, but try to go "full car pool" as an exercise this time, to check whether we're ready to get to locations where public transport would take longer than the hike itself:

I'm not sure whether "Glacis" is free again; that would be a great spot to meet for people from the city center.
I will start from Dommeldange, we meet at the parking of the train station, several buses can get you there (bus stop "Eich, Klinik"), or train RE 3809.

Wherever you start from, please state it precisely on the carpool app to avoid delays from your passengers not finding you.

Disclaimer:
The hike is at your own risk, and please make sure to wear proper shoes and bring some water for yourself!

Raincoats, umbrellas, and waterproof shoes are recommended!

Looking forward to hiking with you!

Jens.
