In the late afternoon of September 20, 2024, a memorable act of performative handover occurred at Lucerne train station: A group of people gathered on platform 2, their green accessories or clothing not only aesthetically but also contextually charged. The Voralpenexpress train was awaiting arrival.
The train arrived on time, the doors opened, and, along with other passengers, two men in black disembarked to the drum and trumpet sounds of the Ragazzi del terzo Piano. They hoisted a small cart onto the platform, carrying a green-wrapped box bearing the number 74.
The action began at the Alte Post Linsebühl in the Point Jaune Museum in St. Gallen. There, the box was packaged for shipping by the Association Verdre (Martin Amstutz, Jan Buchholz), addressed, and bid farewell to the sounds of Café Deseado. After being greeted at Lucerne station, it was escorted by the "green" reception committee to Baselstrasse 74, and its arrival was celebrated with an aperitif. Then, behind closed doors, the secret of its contents was revealed. Box 74 entrances not only as a material object, but also as a conceptual "lens" within a series of projects by the Association Verdre. This is dedicated to the systematic archiving, research, and communication of the oeuvre of Hermann Reinfrank (1952–2023, St. Gallen), whose artistic work is characterized by radical conceptuality, cross-media practice, and an obsessive preoccupation with the color green.
