Get ready for a unique and unforgettable journey! The Easton Area Cycling Group is heading out on a bikepacking trip from Lower Manhattan to Rouses Point, NY—right near the Canadian border. This ride covers approximately 400 miles with 17,000 feet of elevation gain, averaging 60 miles per day.

You’ll travel through some of the most scenic trails in New York State, including the Hudson Valley Greenway and Empire State Trail. Whether you prefer tent camping or hotel lodging, both options are available—it’s entirely up to you.

Start Date: Thursday, August 7, 2025
End Date: Thursday, August 14, 2025 (with flexibility depending on final route)

Start: Castle Clinton, Lower Manhattan, NYC

End: Rouses Point, NY (with optional route extension into Vermont)

Distance: ~400 miles

Elevation Gain: ~17,000 ft

Daily Mileage: ~60 miles/day

Cost: Free to join. Riders cover their own meals, lodging, and return transportation.

Day 1 – Thursday, Aug 7 | Hudson Valley Greenway Trail
Total Miles: 47

Start: Castle Clinton National Monument (26 Wall St, NYC 10005)

Ride:

39 miles to North County Trail Parking (Route 100/N State Rd, Ossining, NY)

8.3 miles to Croton Point Park Campground (Croton Point Ave, Croton-on-Hudson, NY)

Day 2 – Friday, Aug 8
Total Miles: 58 (pavilion) or 64 (hotel)

Ride:

8.3 miles back to North County Trail

50 miles to Hopewell Junction

Total Miles: 66

Ride:

1 mile back to trail

63 miles to Albany Ave

3 miles to Pavilions at Volunteer Park (180 State Farm Rd, Valatie, NY)

2 miles to hotel: Blue Spruce Inn & Suites (3093 US-9, Valatie, NY)

Day 4 – Sunday, Aug 10
Total Miles: 76–77

Ride:

2 miles to Empire State Trail

Finish in Fort Edward

Pavilion option: Harry J. Betar Jr. Park (closes at 6:00 PM)

Lodging: Spring Motor Inn (215 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY)

🔄 Return Trip Options – Days 7–8+ (Aug 13–14)

Amtrak does not currently allow bikes to board at Rouses Point (subject to change), so the plan is:

Extend into Vermont via the Island Line Trail and Lake Champlain Causeway

Continue south to the nearest NY crossing (south of Port Henry) — plenty of campsites along the way

Options from there:

Ride to a nearby Amtrak station

Head to Albany

Or… ride all the way back to NYC!
