In the 1970s, ten-year-old Thomas lives on one of the last French military bases in Madagascar. Inspired by his book hero Fantomette, he spies on those around him and discovers the tangled political and sexual lives of both colonizer and colonized. As relocation looms, Thomas questions whether his memories are worth preserving. French director Robin Campillo (120 BPM) recalls his childhood, blending a sensual exploration of adulthood with a sobering reflection on colonialism.
