SMC Mt Hood Trip Update

From: Damian

Hi all,

I hope everyone has had a great weekend. I wanted to touch based with folks on this trip to give updates on weather forecasts, lodging, and gear.

Weather: As most of you have seen, there is a storm system that will move over the Mt Hood area starting mid-week and going into the weekend. It is hard to tell this far out if the storm system will create unsafe avalanche conditions. Some forecasts predict light snow and others predict heavy snow in the days leading up to our climb. I’ll be keeping an eye on these forecasts and I will let you all know if there is any definitive news.

Lodging: I have seen that some trip members have asked to see what others plan to do. As of now, no one has let me know their specific plans so it is hard for me to help folks coordinate. Please do shoot me any questions you may have and let me know if I can be of help.

Gear I: This ties back to the weather. The last time I climbed hood it was in May and I was freezing my butt off. This weekend will most definitely be a cold one. Please do not underestimate the weather. I will change a few items on the packing list (posted on the SMC trip site to account for the frigid temps).

Gear II: Also, who has snow pickets and how many do you own? I own two, but I would like each rope team to have at least 4.
