Ready for the Season?

Trip leaders, SAR professionals, backcountry rangers, all agree - WFA training is standard, bottom-line gear when it comes to wilderness recreation.

  • Almost half of all SAR operations involve hikers or backpackers
  • Falls are the #1 cause of fatalities in the backcountry
  • The #1 cause of death due to injury is severe bleeding

Let that sink in.

If you're more than an hour from professional medical care, you are considered to be remote, so 2 miles from a trailhead and a 20 minute drive to the nearest hospital means Wilderness First Aid skills will likely be needed in a medical emergency.

Have you ever tripped on the stairs or twisted your ankle stepping off a curb? Think of the possibilities for fall-related injuries on the uneven surface of a hiking trail.

Would you effectively respond if you or a buddy took a fall resulting in open wounds and severe bleeding?

WFA training is not an "extra" safety measure; it's not an "add-on" to your gear arsenal; it should not be something you're going to get around to "someday". If you hike, climb, backpack, ride, paddle or ski outside of an urban setting, WFA is one of your "essentials".
