Miles Thompson worked with Annie Dorsen on an algorithmic theater piece called "The Great Outdoors" - which involves a planetarium, opened in the Netherlands and New York and has since had showings in Paris, Berlin, Boston, and other locations. In this talk, he will explain what algorithmic theater actually is and then review some of the techniques used to generate the text of this piece - from data collection through to techniques for measuring entropy, as well as the use of semantic vectors to guide the text. He will also offer some background on the approaches used and give some tips for left-brain heavy programmers navigating the art world.
• What to bring - Your lunch
• Important to know - Got a project or activity you'd like to share with us? There will be time for this after the talk.
