Responsible AI for public service organisations

Details

Come and join us for an evening of networking, hearing from our internal and external guest speakers and of course refreshments!

## About this event

Data and AI are key to the future of the BBC. However, these must be used and implemented responsibly and in alignment with the organisation’s public service values. What does Responsible AI mean for public service organisations?

Our audience-facing Data Science team is organising a Special Edition of BBC Data Dates; Data Dates is a series of events that aims to raise interest and foster discussions about Data and AI across the BBC. It has been going for more than a year, with one event per month. Every time, the team hosts an external speaker who is giving a talk and a discussion follows. In the past, we had people from both academia (e.g. researchers from TU Delft, University of Amsterdam, and University of Glasgow) and industry (e.g. Yle – the Public Finnish Broadcaster – and Coveo).

Given the success of the series and with the aim to stimulate public discussion on the topic of “What does Responsible AI mean for public service organisation?”, we are organising an in-person, Special Data Date, in London (BBC Media Café) and online on the evening of June 9th.

To address this question, we will have three amazing speakers with us:
• Giuseppe Sollazzo, Deputy Director NHS AI Lab, Head of AI Skunkworks & Deployment
• Bill Thompson, Head of Future Value Research, BBC R&D
• Myrna Macgregor, Principal Data Strategist & Lead for Responsible AL/Robotics Ocado Technology

A panel will follow so the audience can hear more from the speakers and have the chance to ask questions and converse with them. After the panel, there will be time for networking and a buffet/refreshments for the attendees. The panel will be chaired by Laura Ellis, BBC Head of Technology Forecasting.
