Talk #2 - Christopher Berry, Founder & CEO at gatodo - In the CN Tower’s Shadow: Overcoming Mediocrity in the Canadian ML "Ecosystem"
This presentation explores why many teams struggle to achieve their goals, how most strategies are flawed, and most ecosystems are myths—and why we just might have an edge. It's about the importance of recognizing our own strengths in the machine learning community in Canada. It’s a talk that could only be given in the shadow of the CN Tower, to a group that has the social capital to act.

The talk also touches on the idea that while other groups may be focused on competing with each other, have the opportunity to build something different—something real and differentiated by acknowledging our shared goals and interests. Whether you’re here because you’re serious about building something or because it’s a Thursday night at 111 and this is still better than The Minecraft Movie, you’ll want to be in this room.

About the Speakers
Sumaiya Noor is is Chief Product Officer at MPowa, a category-defining AI and Web3.0 company. She has over 15 years of experience in leadership roles, including Product Management, AI, Digital Transformation, and Talent Management. She has received numerous accolades, including being named to the Top 20 global Product Leaders of 2023, Top 100 most influential women of Canada, and Chief Product Officer of the year 2024 by Product-Led Alliance. As a Startup Advisor, Fulbright scholar, and published author, Sumaiya speaks frequently at global forums, including the US State Department and Google DevFest. When not working, she advocates for women's rights, education, and health, while also pursuing her passions for music, travel, and learning new things.

Christopher Berry is the Founder & CEO of gatodo, and a Management Scientist who applies data and science to drive business outcomes. Previously, he led Product Intelligence for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, founded authintic (sold to 500px in 2014), and led teams at Syncapse and Critical Mass. Chris has spoken at prominent conferences like Strata San Francisco, SXSW, and IMC. He's also published in various outlets and contributed to industry standards through his work with the Digital Analytics Association.
