Harrie (leader),

We will be planting crocuses around Maidenhead on 18th October, to raise awareness of Rotary International's initiative to eradicate polio worldwide (purple is the colour of the dye which is used to mark people's fingers when they have their vaccination in some countries - "Purple for Polio").

Planting will happen at a number of locations in Maidenhead.

Eradicating polio: why is it important?

  1. Polio is a paralysing disease which mainly affects children under age 5.
  2. There is no cure, but polio is preventable with a vaccine.
  3. Wild polio is endemic in only two countries in the world.
  4. We’ve reduced cases by 99.9% since 1988.
  5. Until we end polio forever, every child is at risk.
