MakeMoreMusic ATL Turns 1!
Details
It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since MakeMoreMusic ATL kicked off. To celebrate, we’re meeting up at The Marlay House in Decatur. For those of you who made it to our previous event at the Decatur Maker Space, its really close to there. I look forward to seeing you all next week and exploring ways to grow the music and film tech industries in Atlanta. If this is your first time hearing about MakeMoreMusic ATL, read on for a brief summary of what we’re all about. And be sure to join our groups on LinkedIn or Instagram. MakeMoreMusic ATL (MMM) is a community for people who either stay sane or pay the bills with music. Maybe you had dreams of being a musician or being in the music industry, and then kids came along and life had other plans for you. Maybe you’re still a full time musician doing your best to provide a good life for you and yours. Maybe going out to see shows has always been a big part of your life, and it's harder to find time after responsibilities and expenses pile up. Maybe you have an awesome idea for a music related technology but no idea how to turn it into a business or product. You’re not alone. Even if music isn’t your whole life, it’s important that music stays in your life. That’s the key to MakeMoreMusicATL.
We have monthly hangouts, with occasional jam sessions and excursions to see live music. We alternate between social hangouts and meetings with guest speakers (like Soundcloud and Songs for Kids Foundation) or bands, badass music tech company pitches, and plenty of time to nerd out on music. I’ve mentioned kids and family a bunch, but you certainly don’t have to have either to be a part of MMM. We welcome college students with a passion for music and music tech and people from all walks of life.
If you have skills or ideas you want to contribute to MMM from time to time (web design, graphic design, live sound engineering, video editing/production, marketing, etc.), please let us know. The music tech scene in Atlanta is really disconnected, making it tough for early stage music companies with great ideas to gain traction, especially if they haven’t been down that road before. There are lots of opportunities for entrepreneurial MMM members to make a real difference in the Atlanta music industry. You’ve spent your whole life honing skills that you are likely using in some boring job to pay the bills. Maybe you can also use those on the side in a way you actually enjoy, by bringing more music into the world!
