What we’re about
Our aim is to get creative with other people in a zero-stakes environment. In each Meetup, we'll be playing/creating in small groups to make something fun based on a theme. This theme could be a story, a game, an (imaginary) product or any other kind of art. Each meetup will have a different theme and we'll work collabortively with a few other people in small team to make something based around this theme.
You don't need to prep anything (please don't) and you don't need any experience related to the theme. All you need to do is pitch up at the meetup and you'll be joined with a few other people in a team and guided along the process of what we'll do, so you can just focus on sharing the ideas that pop into your mind.
This Meetup is designed around the following principles:
- Play: this isn't serious, we're not trying to create something good, we're just here to have fun with other people.
- Constraints: constraints inspire creativity. There'll be just enough rules - and a clear enough theme - that you just need to focus on coming up with cool ideas with your team.
- Improvisation: my best creative experiences in music, theatre and work have been when I've had an idea and someone's built on it. We're here to improvise together and built on each other's ideas.
- A shared goal/object: throwing some third object between you and another person, as mentioned in this amazing article on friendship, is the best way to meet new people.
- Equal participation: the teams will be organised so everyone can contribute equally.
- Analogue: I love ChatGPT, but we'll be going back to 2021 and keeping AI out of the of the creative process here.
