What we’re about
NOTE: We've changed our name from SINAPS to Make Your Change, to make it a little clearer what we are all about.
Welcome!
We're back and better than ever! Powered by the people behind Make Your Change. We're a group of like-minded people trying to make a bigger difference in helping the planet, whether that's using one less plastic cup, or organising one more rally, we're taking action into our own lives and making a real difference.
What we do:
In something that will be part workshop, part panel conversation, part social outing, this group is to help understand the truth, learn from people who are doing it, and then take action in your own lives. For when you are not sure if you want to relax, socialise, or do something that's been on your to do-list, here's a chance to do all 3.
Format:
• Explain: A presentation 'deep dive' into a particular area of sustainability (ethical investing, political lobbying, renewable energy, suburbanisation, carbon-offsets, etc.).
• Explore: Where possible, representatives from organisations that deal with these issues in the flesh will lead a discussion, answering questions from attendees and giving 'real world' experience.
• Exchange: Exchange your ideas (and a drink) with other like-minded people.
• Execute: Go take action, and where possible, we will organise separate 'Action Sessions' to help people take action (e.g. write a letter to your local MP, how to grow your own food, how to pick ethical investments, etc).
Each week, we will break down sustainable actions into bite size chunks, helping you to stay informed, take action, and in ways that may be novel, surprising, or profitable, and maybe all three!
Themes
Given that sustainability requires system change, we will be breaking issues down into each of the core systems that we make decisions and actions in, namely:
• Financial(investment, spending, borrowing)
• Democratic (voting, lobbying, government interactions)
• Social (activism, evangelism, community)
• Personal (resource usage, time allocation, values)
• I'm no sustainability prophet. I want to increase my positive impact everyday, and I have the feeling that other people want that too.
