MakeFixHack presents:
Visible Mending with Sashiko
This is part of a series of small workshops on visible mending methods. Keep textiles out of the waste stream and give your favorite garments a second life.
This time we'll focus Japanese style of embroidery called Sashiko!
Some materials (needles, thread, thimbles & fabric) will be available at no cost, though quantities will be limited so feel free to bring your own if you have them.
We'll have a short presentation and demonstration before everyone gets a chance to practice.
While the traditional technique would quilt the patch directly to the damaged fabric, this demonstration and project will focus on the stitch patterns by creating a small decoratively quilted patch which can be applied separately to the garment in need of mending.
What to bring:
* A favorite fabric for a patch, a mid-weight woven is best
* A project or finished repair to discuss or show
