Raspberry Python - Call Mom Button

Details

Have you ever wanted to have one big button to press just to call Mom? Has your Mom ever wanted one big button to press to call you? Well, Mother's day is coming up(or will be by the time of this class) and I thought it would be fun to build one. It's going to take a Raspberry Pi, a button, and a couple web services, and I've talked to the companies that make the web services and they think it's a cool idea too. So lets do it. Of course if you want to make your button call someone else, that's ok too.

This workshop will cover the basic use of a Raspberry Pi similar to our basic Arduino Workshops. We will cover:

Setting up a Raspberry Pi with Raspian (as needed)
Exploring Python on the Pi with iPython
Attaching a Physical Button to a Raspberry Pi
Using a Raspberry Pi to Initiate Phone Calls Using plivo and Python Anywhere
Additional topics TDB

This is a basic Raspberry Pi class, containing a mix of hardware and software. It is recommended but not required that you complete up to Lesson 20 in Learn Python the Hard Way or equivalent(Such as our Python Programming for new Programmers Class (https://www.meetup.com/MakerBar/events/109566072/)).

For anyone who took a previous Raspberry Python class, this is at the same level but with different content. There is very little overlap except in the basic setup and no class builds on the other.

Cost is $50 + $10 materials. ($10 for MakerBar Members)

You must bring your own Pi or arrange for us to order one for you.
