Advance tickets cost $14 for adults, $7 for youth aged 5-17, and free for 4 and under. Gate tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for youth.

The Philadelphia Mini Maker Faire is a showcase of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness. From engineers and artists to scientists, students and crafters, “makers” will show off their creations, hobbies, and projects.

What is a Maker Faire?

Picture inventors, tinkerers, hobbyists, crafters, engineers, tech enthusiasts, artists, students, teachers, science clubs, amateurs and professionals, individuals and groups all to celebrate creativity. Adults, children and businesses, all side-by-side, showing off and explaining their work. Imagine thousands of people of all ages and all backgrounds wandering the exhibits, looking, learning, laughing and shopping for ideas and inspiration. That is Maker Faire. The greatest “Show and Tell” on Earth.

Think robotics, drones, 3D printers, wearable electronics, fashion, art, rockets, and much, much more.

Maker Faire is primarily designed to be forward-looking, showcasing makers who are exploring new forms and new technologies. But it’s not just for the novel in technical fields; Maker Faire features innovation and experimentation across the spectrum of science, engineering, art, textile, green innovation, performance and craft.

2019 Philadelphia Mini Maker Faire

Philadelphia Mini Maker Faire is a volunteer-organized, family-friendly celebration featuring local do-it-yourself science, art, robots, crafts, tech, music, hands-on-activities, and more. It’s an event where people show what they are making and share what they are learning. It will be held at Pennovation Works in Philadelphia and feature 100 exhibitors, performances and presentations, plus hands-on activities and workshops.

What is there to do at Maker Faire

Most makers will have exhibit booths where they will show off their creations and tell or show you how it works, what they learned, the inspiration or story behind their work, and more.

There will also be presentations, demonstrations, and performances by makers.

There will be short workshops for attendees to be introduced to new maker skills. Most workshops will be free. A few may charge a small fee for supplies that the participant keeps.

At the Philadelphia Mini Maker Faire, we want everyone who attends to participate in making. This is not just an event to look at a cool gadget. We will give you opportunities to get your hands dirty making things.

Maker Faire History

The launch of Maker Faire in the Bay Area in 2006, a project of the editors of Make: magazine, demonstrated the popularity of making and interest among legions of aspiring makers. Now, over 200,000 people attend annual Maker Faires in San Francisco and New York. In 2017, over 1.5 million people attended Maker Faires worldwide.

Why

Maker Faire is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. It’s a venue for makers to show examples of their work and interact with others about it. Many makers say they have no other place to share what they do. DIY (Do-It-Yourself) is often invisible in our communities, taking place in shops, garages and on kitchen tables. It’s typically out of the spotlight of traditional art or science or craft events. Maker Faire makes visible these projects and ideas that we don’t encounter every day.

If you like to create, tinker, invent or build, you are a maker. Individuals, Clubs, Startups, Hobbyists, Professionals, Students, Teachers, Crafters, Artists, Schools, and Companies. Anyone who is doing interesting, innovative work.
