What we’re about

Are you aware that in order to make friends, you have to be a friend? It's actually true--and not always as easy as it sounds.

In order to be a friend, you need to be able to:

  1. Enjoy people – Tell yourself, “I'm going to make an effort to enjoy this conversation.” Lighten up.
  2. Express yourself – Don't hide who you are. Tell people the first thing you think about. Let them know your thoughts.
  3. Really listen – People are precious. They deserve your full attention and understanding. Show you care--take the time to hear them out.
  4. Share – Share your food, share your time, share your money (within reason), share your thoughts and ideas. Be willing to receive things other people share, too.
  5. Find common interests – Chances are you can find something you have in common with everyone you meet.
  6. Take initiative – Don't wait. Be the person to start a conversation. You have to take the lead sometimes.
  7. Be willing to make mistakes – Not everyone you meet is a good person. It's okay to make an effort and then decide to move on. No one wins 100% of the time. Losing now and then is a part of life. And risking getting hurt is part of the adventure.
  8. Be positive – No one wants to talk to someone who is negative all the time. It's okay to be sad; it's okay to have problems, but do you want your sadness and your problems to define who you are? Be who you want to be--so people can get to know the real you.
  9. Take responsibility for people – Take the responsibility to help strangers and acquaintances simply because you know you want to.
  10. Spread good news – If you know about something really fun, tell people about it. If you know of a really good place, talk about it. If you know about an amazing sale, tell others.
