🎬 Film for Fun – 1–2 Minute Challenge

Hi everyone!

Thank you for your patience while waiting for a new event! This group can go in many directions, and right now some of us are working on writing a short film (we’re hopefully going to start casting/filming soon). Anyone interested in joining at that stage is welcome—stay tuned!
In the meantime, I’m excited to try something new: 1–2 minute films!

Event Details

*Date: Sunday, April 25th - Time 11am - 1pm

  • Location: Greater Victoria Public Library – Central Branch (Room TBD, but it’s usually room 102 or 103), Victoria, BC.
    *Max attendees: 15

What will happen

  1. Quick introductions.
  2. I’ll split everyone into small groups of 2–3.
  3. Each group will get:
  • A prompt
    A prop
  • Groups will go off and:
  • Write a 1–2 minute script
  • Film on your phone
  • Edit on your phone (optional), try in-camera editing, do a “one-er,” or just show raw clips
  • After about an hour, we’ll regroup and watch everyone’s films on the library TV.

This is for all skill levels—from beginners to pros. All walks of life are welcome!
You’re welcome to bring extra equipment (mics, cameras, laptops), but keep in mind the quick turnaround. *Make sure your phone is charged! And please do not film strangers!

Whether you’ve been here from the start or just joined recently, this is a chance to jump in, get creative, and meet new people!

The idea

  • Low-pressure & fun: The goal is to create, have fun, practice, and meet new people!
  • Judgment-free: Please keep everything tasteful and respectful.
  • Time limit: We have two hours for meeting, filming, editing and sharing—expect a little crunch, but it’s part of the fun!
  • No budget, no pressure: Just a creative, supportive space.

Important

  • If you RSVP but cannot make it, please let me know as soon as possible.

Looking ahead
This is the first time running this type of event, so there may be a few hiccups—but we’ll see how it goes and hopefully continue it regularly!
Can’t wait to see what everyone creates! 😊

We acknowledge that we are meeting on the traditional territories of the Lekwungen people, now known as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations, and we are grateful for the opportunity to create and gather here.
