Sunset Hike "Am Himmel"

Who wants to join for another sunset hike? This time from U4 station Heiligenstadt to Am Himmel.

IMPORTANT: Please really, really only sign-up if you indeed intend to make every effort to attend! As we want to be a caring and respectful community, blocking a spot and then not showing up is quite unfair to the people on the waiting list - so please avoid doing this! And in case, your plans change, please also cancel well ahead in time and not half an hour before the event! I truly appreciate your cooperation to have the best experience for all of us! And now talking business ...

The details: from U4 station Heiligenstadt (take exit 12. Februar-Platz), we hike through Karl-Marx-Hof and via Grinzing to Am Himmel. From there, we'll enjoy the sunset and the magnificent view of the sparkling city. You can return either by bus to Heiligenstadt or by hiking to the U4 station Spittelau. Look into the teaser photos to get a feeling for the view!

Length: 5.2 kilometers with 250 meters of elevation gain, which should take us about 80-90 minutes to climb. The trail is either paved or a technically easy gravel/forest path. But please keep in mind, however, that the 250 meters of elevation gain is equivalent to climbing about 100 floors – so it's not a leisurely stroll, but we'll be rewarded with the view at the top!

The sun sets below the horizon at 8:22pm, but we have to be up there around 7:45pm because the sun sets a little earlier behind a hill.

And please allow yourself plenty of time as it's worth staying up at "Am Himmel" until around 9:00pm to fully enjoy the view of the sunset and Vienna peacefully and relaxed with only little light pollution. There are no seating facilities, so you might want to bring a blanket or a newspaper/cardboard to sit on in the grass ... and maybe something to drink or a snack. If you want to leave from "Am Himmel" earlier, you can of course do that individually - the route down is easy to find ...

On a paved path via Bellevuestraße and Windhabergasse, it's only 1.7 km or about 20 minutes downhill to the bus 39A (station Börnergasse), which in 15 minutes takes you directly to the U4 station Heiligenstadt and also passes the S-Bahn station Oberdöbling along the way.

And for those who want to enjoy the hike even longer, it's about 4km from Am Himmel to the U4 station Spittelau - if we leave Am Himmel at around 9:00pm, that would probably be around 9:45pm - 10:00pm at U4 Spittelau.

Please arrive on time at the meeting point at 6:15pm! The sunset doesn't wait nor do we ;-)

And as said: please also cancel well in time if you can't make it!
