Boring is Better: Building RAG with PostgreSQL as a Vector Database
Details
Welcome to the first M-PUG session of the year as we kick off spring in Sweden! Join us for an evening of practical AI and PostgreSQL discussion, community, and good company. We'll be gathering at the ground floor of Minc, and whether you're a longtime member or joining us for the first time, we’re excited to reconnect with the community and start the year with an insightful session.
Title: Boring is Better: Building RAG with PostgreSQL as a Vector Database
Abstract:
Retrieval-Augmented Generation doesn't need the shiniest vector database. PostgreSQL with pgvector gives you everything you need: fast similarity search, native indexing, and - most importantly - one less system to operate. We'll show how to build production RAG applications using the database you already know and love, without the operation complexity/overhead/hype of dedicated vector stores. See if PostgreSQL is the boring choice that makes sense for your team's AI development workflow.
Speaker:
Ali Jahangiri brings a decade of expertise with electron driven innovation - from atomic scale transistor fabrication, to physical AI solution development at Arduino and high performance computing systems. As a Machine Learning PhD candidate at Lund University and affiliated member of the ELLIIT (Linköping-Lund initiative on IT and mobile communication) centre of excellence, Ali is advancing the sustainable AI frontier by developing smaller, faster and more energy-efficient machine learning architectures.
