Sunday stroll around Tatton Park

New joiners welcome!

A beginner-friendly Sunday stroll around Tatton Park, Knutsford, to hopefully see some deer and enjoy a hot drink.

Note: This walk replaces the original Sunday Stroll at Entwistle Reservoir, which has sadly been cancelled due to train engineering works.

We’ll start from Knutsford train station, gathering at the platform. Along the walk, we’ll pass by the lakes and perhaps encounter many of the deer Tatton is known for.

Around halfway through at 1pm, we’ll take a late lunch break near the mansion. I expect the cafe to be open and the purchase of hot drinks is encouraged. Toilet facilities are also nearby.

In the latter half of the walk, we’ll head back to Knutsford via the woodlands, aiming to finish at 2:30 or so. There is an optional post-walk pub visit, though people looking for an early exit are welcome to do so.

FAQs:

What to wear? Any walking boots or trainers are okay, provided you don’t mind if they get a little muddy!

Can I drive to the walk start? You’re more than welcome to meet us at Knutsford station — just make sure to arrive before the train.

Should I bring food? A small packed lunch is a good idea, though I expect the cafe will have some food. Lunch will be slightly late at 1pm, so breakfast beforehand is recommended.

Do I need a ticket for Tatton Park? No ticket is required — parkland entry is free for pedestrians. There are some areas in Tatton Park that are paid, like the mansion, but these don't feature in our walk.

Many of our members are not on Meetup, so the RSVP list will be smaller than the total number of attendees. Typically around 30 people join each walk, so there's plenty of people to chat with.

10:53 - Meet at Manchester Piccadilly, near the departure board
11:03 - Train departs for the walk start at Knutsford
11:45 - Walk starts at Knutsford
13:00 - Lunch break at the Stables
14:30 (approx) - Walk ends at Knutsford with optional post-walk drinks
15:47 - Return train to Manchester
