New joiners welcome!🥾

A gentle-ish route, taking us east towards the Pennine Bridleway, northwards to Chelburn reservoir, and back west towards the Rochdale Canal, which we will remain on for the rest of the walk. Time permitting, we will stop at the Summit Inn where we meet the canal, before walking the last couple of miles back to Littleborough, where further refreshments await us. Please bring a head torch if you have one, in case we decide to stay a bit longer at the Summit Inn. You can always leave the walk here too if you wish, just let Emily (the walk leader) know!

Although we will be on defined paths, please wear some decent walking shoes, and bring waterproofs and warm clothes, as there will definitely be mud. There are a few gentle hills, but we won't rush up these.

This walk is graded Slight/Leisurely: Walks for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience. May include unsurfaced rural paths, with some sustained ascents or descents. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are recommended.

Please note that if the weather is terrible, the pace will be more akin to that of a moderate-graded walk. Some of the paths are quite exposed and not somewhere to linger in heavy rain.

FAQs:

What to wear? Walking boots are recommended as paths are expected to be muddy. Bring waterproofs and warm clothing.
A hot flask with your favourite drink is always a good idea this time of year. Bring enough water, some snacks and food for lunch.

Can I bring a dog? Dogs are welcome on a short lead, see https://www.madwalkers.org.uk/about-us/policies/dogs-on-walks-policy/ for details.

Can I drive to the walk start? You’re more than welcome to meet us at Littleborough train station — just make sure to arrive before 11:15am. The walk will start on time, we cannot wait for late arrivals, sorry. We will wait for the train from Manchester.

Many of our members are not on Meetup, so the RSVP list will be smaller than the total number of attendees. Typically around 30 people join each walk, so there's plenty of people to chat with.
