New joiners welcome! 🥾

Leaving Flowery Field station, we'll pass a Pokémon mural, an impressive former church and a 14th century hall, before picking up the Peak Forest Canal. We'll follow this for a couple of miles before heading to the River Tame and Haughton Dale Nature Reserve. We'll follow this north (apart from a diversion where the path has fallen into a river) until we reach a path through a field and some woodland, where we'll join the canal again, before returning to the station along the road we used previously.
Paths may be muddy and slippery in places. Please don't wear your box fresh trainers.

At the end of the walk, there may be the option to extend the walk by about a mile for people who want a drink in a brewery.

This walk will be led by James Straughan. It is graded Slight/Leisurely: Walks for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience. May include unsurfaced rural paths, with some sustained ascents or descents. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are recommended.

FAQs:

What to wear? Walking boots/shoes are recommended as paths are expected to be muddy. Bring waterproofs and warm clothing.
A hot flask with your favourite drink is always a good idea this time of year. Bring enough water, some snacks and food for lunch.

Can I bring a dog? Dogs are welcome on a short lead, see https://www.madwalkers.org.uk/about-us/policies/dogs-on-walks-policy/ for details.

Can I drive to the walk start? You’re more than welcome to meet us at Flowery Field train station — just make sure to arrive before 10:45am. The walk will start on time, we cannot wait for late arrivals, sorry. We will wait for the train from Manchester.

Many of our members are not on Meetup, so the RSVP list will be smaller than the total number of attendees. Typically around 30 people join each walk, so there's plenty of people to chat with.
