The Sunday Stroll - Miss Marple's Dagger
Details
New joiners welcome! 🥾
The Sunday Stroll is our monthly introduction to walking - aswell as a more relaxed walk for our regular members.
This is a circular walk. As you step off the train (or out the car) at Marple, note the blue plaque telling of how Agatha Christie took the name Marple for one of her series of detective books. We will then head up to the Peak Forest canal which we follow for a short while before cutting through a park to the Macclesfield canal. Marple golf course then leads us onto the Middlewood way which we follow up to Higher Poynton station.
The station offers a range facilities for a lunch break so we will stop here for a while before we rejoin the Macclesfield canal for the return leg. For those with GPS trackers, there is a little "easter egg" for you at the end :-)

FAQs:
What to wear? The Sunday Stroll is intended as a bit of an introduction to walking, so you don't necessarily need a long shopping list. Footwear should be waterproof and easy to clean if it get's muddy. 95% of the walk is on solid paths so if you have something with a bit bounce then that will help. Also really good are light-weight trousers.
Can I bring a dog? Dogs are welcome on a short lead, see https://www.madwalkers.org.uk/about-us/policies/dogs-on-walks-policy/ for details.
Can I drive to the walk start? You’re more than welcome to meet us at Marple railway station — just make sure to arrive before 11:06am. The walk will start on time, we cannot wait for late arrivals, sorry. We will wait for the train from Manchester.
Many of our members are not on Meetup, so the RSVP list will be smaller than the total number of attendees. Typically around 30 people join each walk, so there's plenty of people to chat with.
