New joiners welcome! 🥾

The walk begins in the parks of Didsbury before walking alongside the River Mersey. We pass the Stockport pyramid before finishing at the Magnet pub. From here it is a short walk into Stockport Town Centre for bus or train back to the city centre.

Itinerary:
13:40 - Meet at Manchester Piccadilly station to catch a tram to Didsbury.
~13:50 - Tram departs for Didsbury Village.
14:30 - Walk starts at Didsbury Village tram stop.
18:00 (approx) - Walk ends at The Magnet pub (Stockport).
There are frequent trains back to the city centre from Stockport railway station and buses (including back to Didsbury) from Stockport Interchange, both a short walk away.

This walk will be led by Owain Roberts.

If you prefer, you're welcome to head straight to the walk start point and meet us at Didsbury Village tram stop in time for the start of the walk at 14:30. From the city centre, the tram takes about 25-30 minutes to get to Didsbury Village. Alternatively, the 142 or 42 bus will get you to the main street in Didsbury and the tram stop can be found if you follow School Lane.

FAQs:
What to wear? For the most part, this is a relatively straightforward walk and you should be fine wearing trainers. If there has been recent rainfall some of the paths along the riverside may be muddy and you may prefer to wear walking shoes/boots.

Can I bring a dog? Dogs are welcome on a short lead, see https://www.madwalkers.org.uk/about-us/policies/dogs-on-walks-policy/ for details.

Can I drive to the walk start? You’re more than welcome to meet us at Didsbury Village tram stop — just make sure to arrive before 14:30. The walk will start on time, we cannot wait for late arrivals, sorry. This is a linear walk, and we'll be finishing in Stockport, so you'd need to catch a bus back to Didsbury at the end.

Many of our members are not on Meetup, so the RSVP list will be smaller than the total number of attendees. Typically around 30 people join each walk, so there's plenty of people to chat with.
