New joiners welcome! 🥾

Join us for this linear Sunday stride… this time from Radcliffe to Prestwich.
Starting at Radcliffe tram stop, we will make our way to the Manchester, Bolton and Bury canal to the famous Mount Sion Steam Crane and Mecanno Bridge (in Nob End, no laughing at the back there!). Crossing the River Irwell on the Prestolee Aqueduct, we continue on the canal to picturesque Ringley, featuring ancient monument bridges and historic clock tower.

There is likely to be an earlylish lunch stop, with potential to have a swift half or a lemonade at The Horseshoe Pub (approx half way at 4.25 miles) or explore the picturesque graveyard with bluebells and wild garlic.
Then we will head towards Clifton Country Park, again crossing the Irwell, admiring the remains of Wet Earth Colliery. We will go under the M60, cross the Irwell (again!) into Waterdale Meadow. Next is Prestwich Country Park and then up the Clough to another refreshments stop on Bury New Road.

It's likely to be muddy in parts, walking boots are advised. No sustained ascent, all rather gentle.

FAQs:
What to wear? The route is fairly easy-going, but some of the paths are likely to be muddy, so walking shoes or boots are advised. Also really good are light-weight trousers.

Can I bring a dog? Sorry, assistance dogs only on this walk.

Can I drive to the walk start? You’re more than welcome to meet us at Radcliffe tram stop — just make sure to arrive before 10:35am. The walk will start on time, we cannot wait for late arrivals, sorry. We will wait for the tram from Manchester.

Many of our members are not on Meetup, so the RSVP list will be smaller than the total number of attendees. Typically around 30 people join each walk, so there's plenty of people to chat with.
