What weโre about
Formerly Manchester Comics Society, as someone whose adolescence consisted of delving into the worlds of graphical print and animation, originating from the Western and Eastern continents, I wish to expand this group to include manga and anime related social activities!
Some current idea's are to visit comic conventions, such as the long established annual Comic Con Manchester, and closely related anime cons within the city, with plans already underway to head to the Anime and Gaming Con at Sudgen Sports Centre. We'll be taking advantage of the odd occasion when a beloved bookstore hosts a new comic/manga series launch and author's Q&A talk. Catching the latest of anything still decent in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and cherry picking the good from the ugly in downtown DC. Brunches at Maid Cafe's and strolling around nerdy shops to pick up some much needed fan merch. Having nerdy discourse and debate at a gaming bar!
Even though it has experienced a massive surge in the past two decades, the culture revolving around cartoons is still a pretty niche one, so if anybody has any suggestions of what we could do as graphic novel enthusiasts and beyond, please let us know and it could soon feature as a future event!
If anyone is keen on organising events within a shared co-hosting role, please feel free to drop us a message about becoming an Events Organiser, we would love to have you on board!
Please be aware, photography will be taken at our events. If you wish to not be part of this, please let an organiser know.

See all- Pixel Bar Quiz: Video Gaming Quiz with Metalheads @ Pixel Bar (Weds 4th June)Pixel Bar , Manchesterยฃ3.00
Are you a bit of a video gamer/digital nerd? Did you delve into the virtual realms as a kid and have some gaming knowledge* under your Metal (Mario) cap? ๐ฒ๐ช ๐
Then get to the Pixel bar and show them what you're made of! Alternatively, if you're a bit like me and only have gaming knowledge to a certain extent from years back fear not, there are questions from every decade of gaming's existence, and you could always throw in a wild guess.
Sip and enjoy some happy hour gaming themed cocktails, 2-4-ยฃ13 until 9pm! Food in the form of pizzas and nachos are also served up here in case you want to have dinner before the quiz starts at 7pm.
Spaces for the quizzes are always limited too, so we have an RSVP deadline of Wednesday 28th May at 6pm to decide if you want to join us!
It costs ยฃ10/team to participate so I will have to charge in advance of the quiz a reasonable amount for a minimum of 3 people in a team, any surplus money will go towards subscription fees to keep the MeetUp group running.
* No actual gaming knowledge required, just a propensity to be in it to win it and have some fun along the way! There are six rounds, each with it's own theme, to include a general round, picture round and music round.

- Korean K-pop party with Metalheads MeetUp @ Pixel Bar + MN1 club (Fri 6th May)Pixel Bar , Manchester

To celebrate the beginning of the sunshine days UK K-pop and DJ Emkay are throwing an all white dress party, don't worry I don't know much K-pop myself but it will be one hell of a ride to explore it's catchy tunes and boppin' rhythms! ๐ฏ๐บ๐
Let's meet at Pixel Bar for a few video gaming themed cocktails before descending onto the dance floor at MN1 through the super cool black mask entrance! ๐ฆ๐ญ

- Jiluka @ Manchester Academy 3: Gig Social + Grand Central pub (Fri 20th June)Manchester Academy 3, Greater Manchester
I first stumbled across this band through a Youtuber last year who said they had the "Heaviest breakdown of the year" so naturally curiosity killed the cat before moving onto my eardrums, and it was an astonishing array of cathartic emotions! *o* You have been warned!!
Sub-genres: Deathcore, djent, visual kei
FFO: Lorna Shore, Paleface Swiss, The Gazette, Dir En Grey, Bloodstain Child
We can meet outside the Manchester Academy building for 7pm just before the door opens at 7:30 so we'll skip a bit of queuing, exact spot TBA on the evening. After the gig we can meet at Grand Central for a bit of post-gig socialising and maybe some dancing if you haven't knocked your feet off from all that moshing!
Latest single: KVLT
Great track: VEN0M
Personal favourite: Ablaze"JILUKA expresses a variety of emotions by combining their aggressive metal sound with diverse musical essences and utilizing striking, melodious music.
JILUKA made their first performance in the United States in October at Anime Weekend Atlanta 2023. A month later, it was revealed that they would play at Evil Live Festival in Lisbon, becoming the first visual kei band to perform in the country. Taking advantage of the festival date, the band announced their first world tour 2024 named K4RMA with five solo dates in Europe; in the cities of Warsaw, Bratislava, Cologne, Paris and London which all sold out, plus the Resurrection Festival in Spain / EVIL LIVE Fest in Portugal and a show in Los Angeles in July. Due to the success of K4RMA, they returned to Europe in September with "K4RMA - The Return", this time with 2 new countries: Italy and Finland, and finishing it with a show in China. A four-date tour in United States will begin in late October, 2024.
Now, JILUKA with EGM is taking over the world!!"
