Saddleworth Whit Friday Band Contests
Details
On Friday 29th May I have planned to go see a number of the Brass band contests around the Saddleworth area and it would be great if some meetup friends could join me.
The masterplan is to get the train to Greenfield from Piccadilly Station and then get buses to about 4-5 different venues spending around an hour at each. All the venues have drinks available if you feel thirsty :-) . To make it easier I intend to get the bus from Greenfield station to Lees and work back towards Uppermill to include stops at Grotton, Lydgate, Friezland (maybe) and Greenfield (maybe). Nothing is set in stone to allow for some flexibility so I’ll keep posting updates in the comments regarding our whereabouts and intentions.
There will be some walking involved so wear comfortable shoes and obviously it could be wet/windy/cold so bring appropriate clothing for the great British outdoors. These are all outdoor events and offer very little in the way of shelter from the elements.
Travel: Meeting point: Near the barrier to platform 1 in order to catch the 16:00 train for Huddersfield. Return: flexible. Tickets: All venues are within the Greater Manchester travel zone so I would recommend buying the £5 multiple bus journey day ticket. Trainline quotes £8.40 return without concessions for the train but I’m sure you can get it cheaper.
