Magnificent Obsession (1954) @ HOME Cinema

The film that first brought together stars Jane Wyman and Rock Hudson, Magnificent Obsession is one of Douglas Sirk’s most well-known melodramas.

The story begins when playboy Bob Merrick wrecks his speed boat, and the rescue team resuscitates him with equipment that's therefore unavailable to aid a local hero, Dr. Wayne Phillips. When Merrick discovers the tragedy, he sets out to put things right – but falls in love with Phillips’ widow along the way.

Working once again with cinematographer Russell Metty, Magnificent Obsession showcases director Sirk’s consummate visual style.
