CASE FILE: Let's Delve into the Mind of Colin Ireland (The Gay Slayer)

Details
On January 1st, 1993, Colin Ireland made a New Year’s resolution to become a serial killer. Ireland had researched serial murder cases handled by the FBI and was under the impression that a serial killer was someone with four or more victims.
Ireland began to stalk London’s Coleherne Arms, a gay bar popular with those exploring the S&M scene, where he sought passive men who he could readily restrain as they would initially believe it was a sexual game. A prime example of victim blaming, Ireland later stated that he would never approach anyone direct, but should someone approach him and offer to take him to their home, then Ireland had his victim for the night.
However, Colin Ireland identified as a heterosexual man and had been married twice. When traveling to the Coleherne Arms, Ireland carried a murder kit and change of clothes with him. He restrained, tortured and killed five innocent men over a three month period.
The police investigation(s) which followed were hampered by a recent change in the UK law which made acts of sadomasochistic sex illegal, even between consenting adults. Homophobia was still running rife in the Police Service of the era. These two issues meant that relationships between the Police Service & the LGBT community was at an all time low.
The British media of the time were also immensely homophobic. The red-top-rags of the day gave the unknown murderer several (offensive) nicknames including The Fairy-Liquidator, Jack the Gripper and The Gay Slayer.
