November Meetup

Details
For our November meetup we have two talks:
Elastic 5.0
Elastic just released version 5.0 of their stack. We'll have a speaker from Elastic to give us the lowdown on whats new.
Matthew Houghton - Enabling the UK insurance market to enrich client data in real time
Hummingbird is a cloud-based solution capable of processing, in real-time, vast amounts of customer data.
In the UK a large proportion of people purchase their insurance via an aggregator (price comparison) website. The customer selects the most suitable policy and ‘clicks through’ to the insurance broker website to purchase. Before Hummingbird brokers would perform manual validation on the data submitted via the aggregator on behalf of the customer. This process adds extra administration effort and cost for the broker particularly when inaccuracies are found or further data is required. In some cases brokers have to cancel the insurance policy and refund the customer.
The talk will cover how in under 8 months we delivered our solution to market and how this helps solves a variety of problems, like the one described above, and others such as insurance fraud, quote manipulation and customer loyalty and insight. The talk will also include a demonstration of the solution.
We will cover how we combined the elastic infrastructure of AWS with the vast majority of the elastic stack (search, marvel, kibana, watcher, logstash and beats), our (JAVA) microservices architecture and a publish/subscriber queueing model (Active MQ Artemis) to deliver enrichments to customer data at point of quote.
