What's new in Elastic Stack? + Developing a real-time data intelligence platform

🎙We will have two presentations:

• "Performance, free Security and stronger Data Management - what's new in Elastic land" by Emanuil Tolev, Community Advocate at Elastic

Development of Elasticsearch and the related suite of tools continues at a breakneck pace. Come and learn what's new with the major upgrade to version 7! Buckle up because there are a lot of big developments to talk about. We'll geek out for a bit with Elasticsearch's recent advances in the dark arts of elegantly making things fast. We'll talk about new free data management features fresh out of beta (Index Lifecycle Management and SQL). Last but not least, we'll talk about a pretty big security announcement: in understanding what an important role defaults play in security, we've released some previously commercial security code as free features in our default distribution. TLS encryption and Role-based Access Control are pretty fundamental and go a long way towards securing clusters for free so we'll go over what they are and how to make use of them.

• "How CDL developed a real-time data intelligence platform with the Elastic Stack" by Matt Houghton, Data Services Technical Consultant at CDL

CDL will share how they developed and delivered Hummingbird in under 8 months. They also give a demo of how Hummingbird performs in production and how CDL’s DevOps team uses key AWS services, Elasticsearch and Elastic machine learning features to continually improve the service.

Based around JAVA microservices the CDL team developed loosely coupled components that communicate via a publish/subscribe message queue. These are implemented in an automated way using infrastructure as code.

• Pick up architectural best practices for AWS and learn how to use these to move quickly to production
• Understand how to get insights from your data using the Elastic Stack
• Learn how to use data to detect suspicious behaviour, improve the customer experience and inform pricing
