Greg Colbourn: Effective Altruism - Creating a Better Future
Greg Colbourn is a technology entrepreneur who recently bought a 17 bedroom hotel in Blackpool which he is turning into a hub for Effective Altruism. His hotel aims to provide free accommodation and a space for people to work on EA projects where they can develop their ideas free of distractions without having to worry about fundraising or grants. In this talk Greg will cover the basics of what Effective Altruism is and how it can be used to ensure that the future is as good as possible, whilst reducing existential risks. He will also talk about his EA hotel, how the idea was conceived and realised, and his aims for the future of the project. As usual, our brilliant sponsors Auto Trader will be providing the venue and refreshments. Please let us know if you have any dietary or access requirements! Doors will open from 1830 for a prompt 1900 start. We look forward to seeing you.

Pretty much the kinds of things you might find here

We aim to take an evidence-based approach and avoid pseudoscience. We believe social justice is important to a utopian future, and where appropriate will discuss intersections with feminism, racism, etc.

We value diversity and healthy debate is encouraged, but please do so in good faith and treat each other with respect. We haven't got our own website yet but our Code of Conduct will be the same as this one
