We are glad to host a talk about how technology and agile can be used in the public sector to improve their IT capability. Emma Collingridge and Paul Garratt from Stockport Council and Gareth Rogers from Thoughtworks are going to talk about the work they doing as part of the Digital by Design program.
Emma will talk about the vision of Stockport Council and why it has undertook a large scale change across the whole of the council. Paul will speak about how Stockport Council plans to change their IT to focus more on the business by creating dynamic teams that work in an agile way. Gareth will share with us how technology and agile methodologies can be used in local government, focusing on: open source, sustainable and scalable services and systems, new ways of working and behavioral change.
Emma Collingridge - Programme Manager, Stockport Council
Emma is a programme manager for a digital transformation programme to enable Stockport Council's public service reform programme. With over ten years' experience as a public service developer, deliverer and transformer, Emma is passionate about making services that are efficient, effective, and create meaningful customer outcomes and experiences.
Paul Garratt – Technical Project Manager, Digital by design, Stockport Council
Paul has worked for local government for almost 16 years working in a variety of roles focusing mainly on IT and how it can be used to support services and users. He was the driving force behind some educationally focused CMS implementations used across Stockport built upon open source technology. Paul's role in Digital by design is to oversee all projects from the IT prospective and ensure what is delivered is sustainable and supportable in the future. Out of work he enjoys football, running and spending time with his children.
Gareth Rogers - Developer Thoughtworks
Gareth is a software developer and tech. lead with ThoughtWorks. His focus is on bringing industry experience with lean innovation and agile software development to the public and civic sectors. He has worked with several different departments within the UK government and on the Europe-wide, open source, D-CENT project.
